The Tony Awards are well and truly underway in New York, but there’s one notable absence this year.
Aussie star and Hollywood heavyweight Hugh Jackman is missing from the event, held Sunday night in New York, despite his regular attendance at Broadway’s night of nights.
Jackman, 56, who is based in the Big Apple, has hosted the Tony Awards a whopping four times and won the coveted prize twice before.

But his lack of appearance isn’t entirely surprising, considering his current commitments.
The night before the Tony’s, Jackman performed at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl as part of Opening Night at the Bowl: An Evening with Hugh Jackman.
The Hollywood star sang favorites from The Greatest Showman, The Boy from Oz, The Music Man and more.
“Thank you to the entire team at the @hollywoodbowl!! Every one of you made us feel so well looked after. Thank you @laphil and #YOLA for inviting us to perform with you. It was an awesome experience,” he wrote alongside a photo of the event on Sunday.
He did show his support for the night’s current host, Cynthia Erivo.
“What do we need? A SONG. Especially if it’s sung by @cynthiaerivo hosting the 2025 Tony Awards, yes!” he wrote in support of his friend.
During the event, Erivo referenced Jackman in a cheeky skit as she walked on stage.
“Hugh Jackman called, he said we need a crazy amount of trombones, more than 75 but less than 77,” a staffer said to Erivo, who jokingly replied: “No.”
The absence comes after Jackman made headlines recently for his split from Australian actress wife, Deborra-lee Furness.
The Australian stars were married for almost 30 years after first tying the knot back in Victoria back in April 1996. They announced their split in September 2023.

“It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.”
She went on to say she has found “liberation and freedom” post-split and is “grateful” for her life path.

She finished: “I remain grateful.”
Since the split, Jackman is believed to be dating American actress and Younger star Sutton Foster, 50.
