Aussies might be shivering away as winter rolls on, but Scottish star Sam Heughan is relishing in our version of the cold season.
The Outlander star touched down in Sydney this week, and has shared his astonishment over our winter weather compared to what he cops back home.
“Winter. Winter in Australia,” the actor said incredulously as he strolled along Bondi Beach, turning the camera to show fans the blue sky and sunshine behind him.

“In Scotland, we have snow in winter. It’s dark. Ice. The only ice here is apparently an iceberg, but it’s a swimming pool.”
Heughan gestured behind him to the iconic Bondi Icebergs Club, home to the swimming pool that’s become an Instagram favourite.
“Trying to do up my shirt because it’s that cold,” he joked, squinting into the sun.
His Aussie Instagram followers were quick to weigh in.

“Surely a Sydney winter is a Scottish summer?” one commenter joked.
Others gently informed Heughan that Sydney isn’t indicative of winter everywhere in Australia, and that there are parts of the country that also get snow (or, at least frost).
Heughan, who exploded to fame playing Jamie Fraser in the historical time-travel TV drama Outlander, is in the country for the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming expo.
After spending this weekend in Sydney, he’ll be heading over to Perth, telling fans he’s heard it’s “a very long way away”.
”I hope it’s just as cold and miserable, because I hate winter.”
In his caption, Heughan added, “Can’t wait for more of this ‘bad’ weather…”

Before he gets too comfortable in the winter sunshine, perhaps the Spy Who Dumped Me star should spend a night in the average Aussie home, without reliable heating to keep him toasty.
One scroll through TikTok reveals there are plenty of expats living Down Under who hail from famously cold countries – from Canada to England – yet can’t believe how freezing our homes are at this time of year.
