Blondie’s Clem Burke has died at the age of 70 after a cancer battle, his heartbroken bandmates have announced.
The band, which formed back in the ’70s and is fronted by Debbie Harry, shared a touching tribute to the American rocker on their official social media pages.
In their moving post, the group described the late Burke as “the heartbeat of Blondie” and said “his legacy will live on”.

“It is with profound sadness that we relay news of the passing of our beloved friend and bandmate Clem Burke following a private battle with cancer,” the band wrote.
“Clem was not just a drummer; he was the heartbeat of Blondie. His talent, energy, and passion for music were unmatched, and his contributions to our sound and success are immeasurable.”
They said their late bandmate had a “vibrant spirit” and said his “influence extended far beyond Blondie”.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Clem’s family, friends, and fans around the world,” they went on.
“His legacy will live on through the tremendous amount of music he created and the countless lives he touched. As we navigate this profound loss, we ask for privacy during this difficult time. Godspeed, Dr. Burke.”
It was signed off by “Debbie, Chris, and the entire Blondie family”.

Blondie formed back in the US in 1974 and became known for hits including Heart of Glass, The Tide is High and One Way or Another.
Burke, who hailed from New Jersey, also played in bands including the Ramones and The Romantics during his music career.
He is survived by wife Ellen, who he married back in 2002.
