Nick Carter has opened up about the moment he found out his brother Aaron Carter had died.
The Backstreet Boys star learned of his late brother’s accidental drowning in November 2022 via a text message in a heartbreaking series of events.
“I’ll never forget, you know, being in London at the time when it happened and getting the text message,” Nick said in the recent documentary about his family, The Carters: Hurts To Love You.

Nick and his surviving sister, Angel Carter Conrad, have overcome significant loss in their lives – the death of Aaron came after their two sisters, Leslie Carter and Bobbie Jean Carter, died from drug overdoses in 2012 and 2023 respectively.
“I haven’t even had the chance to grieve,” Nick confessed.
During the documentary, the siblings spoke about breaking the “generational cycle” from their parents, Bob Carter, who died in 2017, and Jane Schneck.

“Our parents don’t define us,” Nick told Angel at the time.
“You know that. Unfortunately, B.J., Aaron and Leslie, they did not know that. They had no idea that they could get out. They didn’t deserve it.”
Nick also pondered on the impact their boy band fame had on their lives.

“Sometimes I feel like it was my fault, you know, because I started it all,” he explained.
“You guys weren’t even 18 years old. You couldn’t escape. You couldn’t get out of there.”

In March, Nick told 24 Oras he was still learning to grieve.
“We all in our lives lose people that we love. As we get older, it continues to happen. For me, I still, to this day, am at a loss,” he said.
“It’s very hard for me to process. I don’t think that I really have processed it or have understood,” he continued.
“I guess I can say that I’m still in the grieving phase. I still haven’t fully grieved with everything that I have gone through,” Nick said.
