Christina Applegate has shared the news her beloved father Robert “Bob” Applegate has died.
The American actress, 53, broke down in tears as she shared the update on the new episode of her podcast, MeSsy with Christina Applegate and Jamie Lynn Sigler.
As the pair sat down and discussed grief with fellow actress JoAnna García Swisher, Applegate, who is battling multiple sclerosis, said at the time of recording her father had “passed away a week ago”.

“You’re probably wondering why I’m crying right now, I’m sorry,” Applegate said.
“My dad just passed away a week ago. This is the first time I’ve really cried.
“I think kind of, like, I wasn’t allowing myself to have that yet. [I was] too busy with this, too busy with that.”
She hinted her father had an illness, saying, “We knew he was going to die. Is that an excuse for not feeling? Because you know that someone’s gonna go, and you’ve said your goodbyes?”

She said her podcast co-host Sigler said the episode could be “triggering” for Applegate and the star admitted she thought she would be ok to record it, but now feels “insanely sad”.
Applegate is the only child of her late father Bob and his former actress wife Nancy Priddy, but she has half-siblings from second his marriage.
Although Applegate is quite private about her personal life, her and her late father once appeared on TLC’s Who Do You Think You Are in 2013, which delved into their family history.
The Sweetest Thing star has been open about her battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) over the years.

She previously revealed she has 30 lesions on her brain from her Multiple Sclerosis.
“I have 30 lesions on my brain,” she said on a recent episode of Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert.

“My biggest one is behind my right eye, so my right eye hurts a lot.”
She was diagnosed with MS back in 2021.
