Payne never married but had a son, Bear, with the former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy. Tweedy is now legally responsible for Payne’s money after being named as administrator for his estate.
Tweedy, who was Payne’s partner for two years, could place the assets in a trust for Bear, British media reports. English law means a person’s spouse and then their children have first claim to any estate and Tweedy cannot distribute it.

A toxicology report from tests taken after an autopsy revealed that Payne had alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his system when he fell from the balcony.
However a court in February dropped charges against three people who had been tied to the death.
Payne’s sudden death drew an outpouring of grief around the world from heartbroken fans of One Direction, among the best-selling boy bands of all time.
