Four Canadian track and field medallists from the Paris Olympic Games will be in competition on CBC Sports this weekend.
That begins with the Diamond League stop in Doha, Qatar, on Friday (12 p.m ET, CBC Sports.ca, CBC Gem), which features a star-studded lineup in the women’s pole vault.
That includes Olympic bronze medallist Alysha Newman, who successfully improved upon her own national record with a mark of 4.85-metres to land on the podium in Paris.
Newman sat down with CBC Sports earlier this year to talk about life after her medal win.

The Delaware, Ont., native competed in only one indoor event in 2025, finishing second (4.50m) at the World Athletics Indoor Tour meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, in February.
Newman will compete in her first Diamond League meet of the season against some familiar competition – Olympic silver medallist Katie Moon of the U.S.

The entire podium from Paris 2024 was supposed to be in action in Doha, but gold medallist Nina Kennedy will be forced to miss the start of the season while the Australian recovers from hamstring surgery.
The start list for Friday’s event also includes American Sandi Morris, New Zealand’s Eliza McCartney, Slovenia’s Tina Šutej, and Great Britain’s Molly Caudery.
Brown faces tough test in men’s 200m
The men’s 200-metre event will also be contested in Doha, with Toronto’s Aaron Brown lining up against the current world No. 1-ranked athlete in the distance.
Botswana’s Letsile Tobogo has a season-best time of 20.23 already under his belt from the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in mid April.
This will be Brown’s first 200 of the season, but the 32-year-old sprinter has a personal best of 19.95. He’s also coming off a bronze-medal win as part of Canada’s 4x100m team at World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, last weekend.
The team also clinched a spot at this September’s world championships in Tokyo.
Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, Brendon Rodney and Andre De Grasse raced to a bronze medal time of 38.11 Sunday at the World Athletics Relay Championships in Guangzhou, China.
The 200 in Doha will also feature Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh, and Americans Courtney Lindsey and Kyree King.
De Grasse, Blake running in Tokyo
Two of Brown’s teammates will also be in action this weekend at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix in Tokyo (Saturday at 11:50 p.m. ET, CBC Gem, CBCSports.ca).
Andre De Grasse and Jerome Blake will both compete at the Continental Tour stop, with De Grasse in the 200m, and Blake in the 100m.
De Grasse recorded a time of 20.23 in the 200 at the Grand Slam Track event in Miami while Blake ran to a wind-aided 10.00 in the 100m at the Florida Relays in early April.
Another name to watch in the men’s 100m is American standout Christian Coleman, who ran to a 10.06 at a meet in Gainesville, Fla., in April, but owns a personal best of 9.76.
