Adrien Brody‘s girlfriend has explained why the actor threw his half-chewed gum at her at the Oscars this year.
As the Brutalist star was called up to receive his second Academy Award and give a speech, he paused and turned back mid way up the stairs to throw the gum he was chewing at his girlfriend, British fashion designer and actress Georgina Chapman.

Many deemed the act “disgusting” and “gross”, with a number of op-eds and articles calling the 52-year-old’s act “inappropriate”.
Now, Chapman, 49, has broken her silence on the ordeal, telling Page Six the split-second decision was actually hers.
”I asked him to do it,” Chapman recalled, “I saw him standing there, I could see that moment of panic on his face. He was really like, ‘Wow, I shouldn’t be having gum.'”

She then yelled, “Give it to me” and ran up to receive the gum but failed to actually catch it.
Brody recalled what happened in an interview right after giving the speech.
He explained on LIVE with Kelly and Mark backstage at the Academy awards, “I forgot I was chewing gum, and I can’t make a speech with gum in my mouth.”

Mark Consuelos added that he couldn’t swallow the gum because “it’s bad for you”, but it seems Brody had just came to that realisation.
“I could’ve! I didn’t think about that,” he groaned, adding that all he was thinking is “I’ve got to get rid of this somehow!”, miming a dunking action.
This was not the only “inappropriate” act from Brody on the night, with the Predator star also having actress Halle Berry enact “revenge” against him for the infamous kiss he laid on her before his speech at the 2003 Oscars ceremony.

This time Berry stole a smooch from Brody on the red carpet before the ceremony began.
As they did so the crowd around them, which included reporters and Chapman, laughed and cheered along.
Chapman also weighed in about this act, telling Extra red carpet interviewers Mel Robert and Terri Seymour, “I mean, how can you deny a man a kiss with Halle Berry?” she said.
The designer, who is the former wife of disgraced Hollywood heavyweight and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein, was also asked if Brody was OK with it, to which she replied, “He was more than fine.”
