Blake Lively v Justin Baldoni trial: Actress to testify in court, lawyer Mike Gottlieb confirms in interview

Blake Lively‘s lawyer says she will “of course” testify against Justin Baldoni when the dispute between the It Ends With Us co-stars goes to court.

Speaking with People magazine, Mike Gottlieb addressed the actress’ role in the upcoming trial, expected to begin in March 2026, after weeks of speculation.

“Yes. The ultimate moment for a plaintiff’s story to be told is at trial,” he said.

“We expect that to be the case here [with Lively]. So we would, of course, expect her to be a witness at her trial.

“Of course she’s going to testify.”

While Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds is named as a defendant in Baldoni’s countersuit, Gottlieb believes claims he will also testify in the trial are “frivolous”.

“This is a case about what happened to Blake Lively when she raised claims of sexual harassment on the set,” he said of discussions of stars like Taylor Swift and Hugh Jackman, close friends of Lively, also being subpoenaed.

“It’s not a case about how songs were chosen for the movie. It’s not a case about fictional Marvel characters in Deadpool movies.”

It’s not known if Baldoni also plans to take the stand.

Gottlieb’s comments come two weeks after Lively alluded to her legal battle at the Time100 Gala, where she was honoured.

“I have so much to say about the last two years of my life, but tonight is not the forum,” the Another Simple Favour star, who was featured among the magazine’s “Most Influential People of 2025,” began her remarks at the New York event.

“What I will speak to, separately, is the feeling of being a woman who has a voice today.”

Days later, the actress gave her first TV interview since the legal feud began, telling talk show host Seth Myers she’s had “a pretty intense year” filled with the “highest highs and the lowest lows”.

Lively sued Baldoni, his production company and others in New York in December for sexual harassment and attacks on her reputation, seeking unspecified damages.

He later countersued, accusing Lively and Reynolds of defamation and extortion and seeking at least $400 million (AU$631,286,000) in damages.

Co-stars shut down ‘feud’ rumours with one small move

The legal moves came months after the release of It Ends With Us, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2016 novel directed by Baldoni, in August.

Despite its box office success, the movie’s release was shrouded by speculation over discord between its two main stars, who portrayed the couple at the centre of the story.

Lively and Baldoni’s trial will take place in New York next year.
