Beckham won his first ever soccer contest when he was just 11 years old, going on to make his professional debut with Manchester United in 1992 when he was just 17.
He won the Premiere League six times and the FA Cup twice before he made the move over to Real Madrid where he played for four seasons.
In 1996 he was recruited for the England national team for which he played for for 13 years, even taking on the role of captain for six of them.
Over his soccer career, Insider reports that Beckham made an estimated $US800 million (approximately $124 million).
But one of the highlights of his career was meeting former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham.
The pair first met when David was at the beginning of his career back in 1997.
Victoria was already at the height of her fame, known to the world as Posh Spice.
They met at a Manchester United game and David was too shy to ask for her number, however when they met again a week later he mustered up the courage and had her write her number down on a train ticket that he still has to this day.

The couple went on to welcomed four children, all of whom have of course taken after their dad.
Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13, have all taken up soccer at some point or another, an almost unavoidable fact seeing as though they were basically raised on the soccer field.
In another throwback post shared to mark his milestone birthday, David said that he’ll always be grateful for everything he’s achieved career wise, but it’s his family that he will forever regard as his “biggest accomplishment”.
“My wife and best friend of 28 years and my beautiful children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz & Harper you are the reason I get out of bed each day,” he wrote.
“Thank you for making me smile and thank you for making me a better man…. I love you all so much and thank you for making today so special for me… You are my world”.
