Eric Dane makes his first red carpet appearance after revealing his ALS diagnosis

Eric Dane made his first red carpet appearance since announcing his ALS diagnosis.

The former Grey’s Anatomy star arrived at the Countdown premiere in Los Angeles, holding hands with his new girlfriend, filmmaker Janell Shirtcliff.

The outing also marked the couple’s red carpet debut, with the couple getting together after the end of his more than 20-year marriage to actress Rebecca Gayheart.

When asked how he was feeling and what it meant to be there, the actor said he was “proud of the work I do” and “really enjoyed spending time with these guys on set”.

“I’m feeling pretty groovy,” he told Extra TV.

“It’s a little hot but other than that, everything is perfect.”

Dane appeared alongside his co-stars, including Jensen Ackles, who hugged him tightly and happily posed for photos in a casual, white t-shirt look.

The actor revealed his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is better known in Australia as motor neurone disease (MND), in April.

More recently, he added that he has no plans to stop acting any time soon, calling it a welcome distraction.

“I’m going to ride this till the wheels fall off,” he told E! News.

“It keeps me sharp. It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now.”

The disease, which is also sometimes known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, has no known cure and is characterised by the Mayo Clinic as “a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord”.

“I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” he told Good Morning America last week.

“I don’t think this is the end of my story,” he said.

“I don’t feel like this is the end of me.”
