Cher made headlines for accidentally walking off stage and announcing the wrong name while presenting Record of the Year at the 2026 Grammys.
Now, Grammys executive producer Ben Winston has spoken out, saying he absolutely ”loved” the chaotic moment during a new podcast interview.
Speaking on Rolling Stone Music Now, Winston said he loved having the hitmaker, 79, present at the ceremony, adding they had been trying to get her for years.

“She did know what she was there to do. I promise you, we had briefed her, and I promise you, it was in the prompter, what she had to do,” he said.
“We had been trying to get her on the show for a really long time.”
He added he’s glad the viral mishap happened at the Grammys: “I think if it happened at the Oscars, it would be like, ‘oh my goodness, it’s a disaster’, but on our show, I loved it.”

“I just thought it was a really funny moment,” he added.
“If I could go back in time, I’d want that to happen again, ’cause she’s happy with it, she had a great time.
“It was a really lovely moment and you want a bit of anarchy. Everything is so rehearsed these days.”
During Sunday’s ceremony, Cher accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award before forgetting she had to present Record of the Year, accidentally walking off before announcing the nominees and winner.

She also bungled the winner’s name after a gap before making the announcement.
“Oh, they told me it was going to be on the prompter!” she quipped, before mistakenly announcing the name of late music legend Luther Vandross, who died in 2005.
The winner was Kendrick Lamar and SZA for the song Luther, which was named after Vandross and samples one of his songs.
However, she laughed off what happened on stage.
