Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about where she stands with two of her A-list exes, and it’s reminded me how wild it is that she and Brad Pitt were engaged back in the late ‘90s.
And now, in a new cover story with Vanity Fair, the Goop founder got real about where she stands with her longtime ex — and made a comparison between Brad and a member of the British royal family, no less.
Describing a challenging shoot while she and Brad were together, Gwyneth revealed that on one occasion, her then-partner had ventured to the English countryside to visit her. She recalled that Brad made the trip for her birthday, and despite some issues with the production, the two were able to spend time together.
“He’s a very intriguing character,” Gwyneth said, explaining that the two have remained friendly. She then went on to describe the experience of their relationship being so in the public eye, saying, “It’s like having dated, I don’t know, Prince William or something.”
And while Brad and the Prince of Wales are pretty much worlds apart, Gwyneth acknowledged that she’d likely forever be associated with the Fight Club star. “That’s always going to come up,” she said.
Despite it all, it seems as though Gwyneth and Brad are comfortable with where they stand. In an interview for Goop back in 2022 to discuss Brad’s clothing line, the exes looked back on their relationship and the “profound effect” they had on each other. “It’s lovely to have you as a friend now,” Brad said. “And I do love you,” to which Gwyneth replied, “I love you so much.”
Even 28 years after Gwyneth and Brad broke off their engagement, they’re on good terms, and Gwyneth added that the same could be said for another A-list ex, Ben Affleck. If you’re like me and need a refresher because you completely forgot that those two were ever a thing, the pair dated on and off from 1997 to 2000.
And although she has super healthy relationships with her exes (Chris Martin and their impressive coparenting included), it looks like Gwyneth, who is now married to producer Brad Falchuk, is happy to keep moving forward. “I really embrace the roads I take,” she told Vanity Fair. “I almost never go back and noodle about choices.”
