James Bond casting: Jonathan Bailey addresses rumours he will be the next 007

Back in 2021, James Bond fans were sad to say goodbye to the iconic Daniel Craig as he wrapped up his tenure in the role.

Thankfully, the franchise confirmed that despite Craig’s departure, No Time to Die was not the end for Bond. Which left fans with one question – who would be next?

For years many have speculated who might take on the iconic role, and one of the main contenders has been British actor Jonathan Bailey.

Fans of the Wicked actor have been theorising that he could step into Bond’s shoes, but there has been no confirmation from the actor himself.

However, he’s now broken his silence.

During an interview on BBC Radio 2, Bailey was asked by Scott Mills if he would consider playing the famed character.

“Scott… how dare you,” Bailey responded as he seemed to search for words.

Now, we’d love to write out a simple quote of what came next, but it seemed that the Bridgerton actor just couldn’t gather his thoughts.

He said that the thought of him as Bond was “very flattering” before he began to stumble through broken sentences joined together by “I mean”, “honestly” and “I don’t know” on repeat until he managed to pull himself together.

With a little help from Mills, Bailey admitted it would be hard to say no to the role if it were, or had already been, offered to him.

”But I know that it’s going to be exciting, whatever they do,” he said.

Another fan favourite rumoured to take on the role is The Fall Guy‘s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with his Bullet Train co-star Brian Tyree Henry telling 9honey that he totally backs the idea.

“I told him don’t take it unless I can be the villain,” he joked.

“I love him very much. I care about him a great deal and it would be the smartest move they ever made, if he was Bond. Truly.”
