Brittany Hockley’s wedding to her partner Ben Siegrist looked picture perfect, but there was one element that was a complete flop.
The pair forked out $1000 for a simple but elegant wedding cake to share with friends and family at the reception of their wedding at the romantic Pandawa Cliff Estate.
But when the cake was delivered, it looked nothing like what they had ordered and instead resembled a burnt “four-stack pizza”.

“We have to talk about the wedding cake,” Hockley said in a conversation with Siegrist and her co-host Laura Byrne on their Life Uncut Podcast.
”Can you even call it a wedding cake?”
Hockley shared a photo of the stunning sponge cake she had ordered. It featured two layers of sponge decorated with piped white cream and was topped with vibrant fresh berries.

Then she shared a photo of the unfortunate cake she received.
“It was not what we’d ordered at all,” Siegrist said as he recalled the cake.
Instead of the two layers of sponge that they ordered, the cake resembled flakey puff pastry instead. It was complete with an off white cream and a mix of colourful berries.

“I kid you not – this cake looked identical to a four stack pizza,” Byrne explained
“It looked like someone had gotten four humongous supreme pizzas and layered them on top of each other.
“It was covered in blueberries which looked like olives and then little cut up strawberries but they looked like cherry tomatoes.”
“It was like getting a cake on Temu,” Byrne added.
Hockley recoiled as she recalled the wedding cake disaster.
“It was so bad,” she said.
Then when Hockley and Siegrist tried to cut it, it was too burnt to cut and instead “crumbled everywhere”.
As she tried to grapple with the disappointing cake in front of guests and her wedding photographer, Hockley laughed that she had had enough of it.
“I literally said, ’stop filming’. I said, ‘Take it away, no photos, nothing to see here’,” she recalled.
The couple’s unfortunate ‘expectations versus reality’ moment ended up setting them back $1000.
“It was $1000 for that burnt pizza,” Hockley admitted.

But at least the wedding cake flop served for a funny story.
“When they lie on their CV,” Hockley captioned the podcast clip on her Instagram.
“What was delivered was definitely not what we ordered but we couldn’t stop laughing.”
In the comment section, Hockley’s friend and former colleague Mitch Churi, who attended the wedding, admitted that the cake tasted as bad as it looked.
“I didn’t want to say anything but I choked. It was so dry. I almost choked and died,” he wrote, jokingly.
