Meryl Streep and Martin Short have been photographed kissing each other on the streets of New York City.
It’s a photo so many fans have been desperate to see since rumours that the pair of Hollywood elite actors began swirling early last year.
At first glance, it appears to be cold hard proof the whispers of a Streep/ Short romance, which the pair have continued to deny, were on the money all along.
But sadly for stans of Shreep (our preferred couple name for the duo), it’s not all as it seems.

Yes, the pair have been photographed sharing an impeccable smooch in broad daylight in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the world.
But it’s not a photo of an elite Hollywood couple enjoying a moment of PDA. Instead, it’s a photo of two stars doing what they do best – act.
Streep and Short’s kiss was photographed while the pair were on set for the upcoming season of their television show Only Murders In The Building.

It was one of a series of photos captured of the duo as they filmed a scene for the show.
The duo are on-screen lovers in the popular drama which also stars Steve Martin and Selena Gomez and a whole host of other A-list actors.
Both actors were dressed in their detective best for the scene with Short wearing a brown trench coat and Streep pairing a beige trench with a fedora and sunglasses.
The pair appeared to laugh along with each other between takes.

The pair’s onscreen chemistry has only added fuel to the fire of the ongoing romance rumours that began at the Golden Globes last January.
At the event, their co-star Gomez spoke to superstar Taylor Swift about “two friends who hooked up” and fans immediately speculated Streep and Short were the well-acquainted duo Gomez was referring to.
Since then, the duo have been spotted together on multiple occasions even walking hand-in-hand on the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere for Only Murders In The Building Season Four.

But the duo maintain that they are simply good friends.
Last January, Short addressed the rumours himself in a chat with Bill Maher on his podcast Club Random.
“We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends,” he said.

A rep for Streep has also addressed the rumours telling Page Six that “they are just friends”.
While the new photo does nothing to confirm or deny a romance between Streep and Short, it does seem to confirm that Streep will be returning for the fifth season – something fans have been wondering for months.
