Michael J. Fox returns to acting after five years in Shrinking season 3


Activist and actor Michael J. Fox will be making his return to acting five years after announcing his retirement for a very special project.

The beloved actor, who retired due to health complications stemming from his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, is due to share the screen with another Hollywood legend in TV show Shrinking in a guest role.

Shrinking follows Jason Segel as Jimmy Laird, a grieving therapist mourning his wife by telling his clients what he really thinks and causing trouble. There to help clean up the mess is Dr. Paul Rhoades, played by Harrison Ford.

In the last season, Ford’s character is dealt with a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis, which hints to the role Fox will be portraying.

Fans welcomed news of the return, sharing their thoughts in the comment section of the Instagram post Apple TV+ shared announcing the news.

“This is the best news ever!! Can’t wait to see one of my favourite actors on my favorite show,” said one fan.

“Oh man the scenes with him and Harrison Ford are gonna be incredible. Two 80’s Hollywood Legends dealing with Parkinson’s (MJF for real, Ford in character),” another added.

“There could not be a more perfect match!!” another fan agreed.

“This will be huge for Parkinson’s,” one observed.

The star’s last major role was as the lead in the sitcom The Michael J. Fox Show, which ran from 2013 to 2014. 

Before that he voiced lead roles in the Stuart Little films and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. He also made guest appearances in Rescue Me in 2009, legal drama The Good Wife from 2010 to 2016 and it’s spin-off The Good Fight in 2020, as well as Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2011 and 2017.

He famously took on the role of Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy (1985–1990), and was also known for Teen Wolf (1985) and sitcom Spin City from 1996 to 2000.

Fox made his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease public in 1998 after being first diagnosed in 1991. He has since founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000 to help fund research, which it continues to do today.
