Miley Cyrus has put rumours to rest years after she sparked them with a single detail in her music video.
In the video for her Grammy Award-winning song Flowers, Cyrus, 32, is seen wearing a hooded gold dress and sunglasses.

This was seen by many to be a reference to Jennifer Lawrence, her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s co-star in The Hunger Games.
As the pair filmed the trilogy, it was rumoured they had an on-set romance, coinciding with Hemsworth and Cyrus’ decade-long on-again-off-again relationship.
Lawrence did admit in 2015 in her Watch What Happens Live interview that she and Hemsworth had kissed off-screen, though she insisted it was when he was not with the singer.

The gold dress reference originates from the premiere of the first Hunger Games film in 2012, where Lawrence wore a dress very similar to the one Cyrus wore in the music video, with fans believing it to be an intentional callback to the rumoured affair.
Two years after the song’s release, however, Cyrus has confirmed this is not the case.
The Hannah Montana star was captured signing autographs for fans in a TikTok when one shouted out, “Miley, was your Flowers dress a reference to Jennifer Lawrence?”

She star replied nonchalantly, “No, but I love that dress of hers.”
Despite her response, fans weren’t convinced.
“That’s a classy way to say yes,” said one.

One confessed, “Her answer confuses me more.”

Flowers is believed to be inspired by Hemsworth and Cyrus’ 2019, with many signs pointing to him.
The house on fire in the music video seems to be a reference to their marital home being burned down in a fire in 2018, and the music video itself was released on January 13, 2023, Hemsworth’s birthday.
