Penny Lancaster has many fond memories from her trips to Australia alongside husband, singer Sir Rod Stewart.
But perhaps one of the moments closest to her heart is from their most recent trip, when she got her first tattoo – a matching one with her 19-year-old son Alastair Stewart.
Lancaster tells 9honey Celebrity there’s a special meaning behind the two birds on her left forearm.

“I’ve got two boys and I want them to spread their wings and think of nature as they go on their way,” she explains at the world premiere of David Attenborough’s new film, Ocean With David Attenborough, in London.
Lancaster and Stewart, who have been married for 17 years, share two sons Alastair and Aiden, 14.
The family joined the musician as he toured Australia in July and August 2023 and Lancaster says she “can’t wait to get back”.
“What a vast and beautiful, diverse country it is, it has a bit of everything, doesn’t it?” she says.

“From from the deserts to the oceans to the rainforest, we got to visit a lot of different parks, rural areas, visiting the zoos and the conservation areas, as well as sort of the exciting nightlife, so [it’s a] wonderful, wonderful country and I can’t wait to get back.”
Giving an insight into their home life, Lancaster and her eldest son, tell 9honey that Attenborough documentaries are a regular part of the family’s viewing.
“When we’re at home… we travel with him, he expands our horizons and he shows us the way to go and it’s about passing it on now to our younger generation – hence why I’m here with my son Alastair,” Lancaster says.

Alistair believes Attenborough’s message will “stand the test of time” and the broadcaster’s work will remain for his own grandchildren to one day watch.
“It’s of high importance in our family, and we take steps every day to sort of add to that,” he says of the importance of conservation.
“And I do think, especially with the medium of film, that all his films and everything he does around the space will stand the test of time and we’ll be able to revisit what he’s done and what he’s achieved – and even probably my children and so forth, so forth – will always be able to come back and to the archives and see what amazing work he’s done.”
