What many people also don’t know is that West provided the vocals for the iconic theme song. Her voice was discovered when she would walk around the set singing pop songs, with the actress also having been in musical theatre. She was then asked to sing the now-unforgettable tune.
She continues to sing the nursery rhyme-inspired song to this day, having continued her passion for singing as a singer in jazz venues across Melbourne, where she resides with her husband and two daughters. Â
West’s acting career was also fairly short. She was a child actress in films Jenny Kissed Me (1985), and Frog Dreaming (1986), as well as having appeared in Saturdee (1986) and Neighbours (1987-88, 1991), playing Emma Gordon.
After her most famous role, she continued to act in small roles in TV series such as The Magistrate (1989), Blue Heelers (1994), and Janus (1995), which was her last role. She was also in the chorus for the 1992 Jesus Christ Superstar Australian arena production.
After that, West focused on her studies and career, eventually becoming a speech therapist. She has worked in neurosurgery units in both the UK and Australia, helping people who have had brain tumours or haemorrhages and were left unable to speak.Â
But she hasn’t ruled out a return to acting completely, putting it off now to raise her children.Â
“I have two young girls, and my focus is them right now. They didn’t sign up for Mummy to be an actor and to be gone. But definitely never say never. In a few more years I might be looking to dip my toe back.”
