It’s the show that made her a star, but Sarah Jessica Parker says she begged to be taken off it.
Back in the late ’90s when Sex and The City was picked up by HBO, Parker had already been cast as Carrier Bradshaw, but now she’s revealed that amid a moment of ‘panic’ she pleaded with her team to have her role recast.
Appearing on the latest episode of her co-star Kristin Davis’ podcast Are You a Charlotte? Parker went into detail about her experience.

“And when the show was picked up, I panicked,” she shared.
“I was like, ‘I can’t be on a TV show. I don’t think I’m suited for that life.'”
The actress admitted that she’d enjoyed her time filming the pilot in 1997, but when things became real, she didn’t think she was mentally prepared for what was to come.
So, she called her agents and asked if they could “get [her] out of this”, even offering to work on multiple movies for the network to meet her contract requirements.

But, she said that her agents insisted that she do the show “for a year”.
“And if you don’t want to do it anymore, we won’t do it,” they told her.
Sex and The City was, of course, the role that made Parker a household name, but it wasn’t her first time on the small screen.
She’d previously worked on shows such as A Year in the Life, Square Pegs and Equal Justice, but said that it was her experience on those shows that partially drove her into a panic ahead of Sex and The City.
“It’s very hard to explain. It also kind of depressed me,” she told Davis.
“I think that it was the idea of doing the same thing over and over and over again… They had shorter lives – maybe one or two seasons – and then I moved on.”

But, in the end, the actress couldn’t be more grateful that her agents pushed her to take on the role.
“I never looked back. And I was never not happy to be there,” she shared.
“There was no place I would rather have been than on our set every single solitary day.”
