This story contains discussion of child abuse.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the comedian and actor claimed that her grandfather killed her infant brother while “in a rage.”
Sarah — who also has three sisters, Laura and Susan Silverman and Jodyne Speyer — says that when she was growing up, she was told a different story about her late brother Jeffrey’s passing at 3 months old as an infant than the one she currently accepts. “The story was that something happened with the crib, and Jeffrey’s little body slid and he got suffocated,” she said. “But if you look back, there was never a lawsuit with the crib company or anything.”
You may remember that Sarah also adapted her autobiography The Bedwetter into an off-Broadway musical that was staged in 2022. The musical apparently includes a joke about Jeffrey’s death — and after her father Donald came to see a performance, he revealed to her that Jeffrey’s death allegedly was at the hands of her grandfather.
“My dad says, ‘I always felt that he was crying or something, and my dad shook him.’ He shook him in a rage and killed him,” she alleged. “As soon as he said it, it was like, ‘Of course, that’s what happened.’”
“His mother always stood by her husband,” Sarah added. “She watched him beat the shit out of her son. I couldn’t ask my mom, because she was dead.”
