Shakira has spoken out about being an immigrant and “living in constant fear” in Trump’s America, amid the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids.
The Colombian-born singer, 48, was asked by BBC News how it “feels” to be an immigrant living in America right now.
“It means living in constant fear,” she told the outlet while on tour.
“And it’s painful to see.”

She urged for people to “remain united” and urged for people to be treated “humanely”.
“Now, more than ever, we have to remain united,” she said.
“Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane.”
The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker, who has Lebanese and Spanish heritage, told the publication she moved to America at the age of 19 “looking for a better future”.

At the 2025 Grammys, in an acceptance speech, Shakira said: “I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country.”
“You are loved, you are worth it, and I will always fight with you.”
Immigration raids – and subsequent protests – have taken place in the US in recent weeks under Donald Trump’s Presidency, amid a crackdown on undocumented and illegal migrants.

Marines were even called in, in Los Angeles.
It comes after Shakira just months ago was hospitalised due to abdominal issues.
At the time, she was forced to cancel a concert in Lima, Peru, due to the hospitalisation.
The Whenever, Wherever singer told fans that their messages give her “so much strength” amid her health battle.
”Thank you all for your loving messages,” Shakira wrote in a statement.
”You give me so much strength!! I love you with all my heart.”
