Amelia Dimoldenberg has become a regular on every major red carpet, but she’s not a Hollywood star.
Ten years ago, Dimoldenberg had an idea for a YouTube show, sparked from two facts:
- She wanted get to know the music the people around her were listening to.
- She had never been on a date before.
And so, her now-viral hit Chicken Shop Date was born.

The concept for the show is very simple – Dimoldenberg goes on a date with a celebrity at a UK chicken shop.
But where most celebrity interviews are filled with welcoming questions and pandering compliments, Dimoldenberg brings a bit more personality to her chats, with a standoffish and sarcastic persona.
“Of course, it’s a real date,” the presenter told late night host Seth Meyers.

”I actually started it off in a youth club in London, where I’m from, and we made a magazine and everyone there was really into UK rap and I was into Katy Perry, and I really wanted to get to know the artists everybody was listening to and thought a great way to do that would be to date them,” she said.
“It started from there, and I’d also never been on a date before, so killing two birds with one stone.”
While some may find it off-putting, Dimoldenberg’s unapologetic awkwardness has garnered her a cult following.
Now a viral YouTube hit, Chicken Shop Date was once a magazine column Dimoldenberg would write while studying fashion at Central Saint Martins.

But the 31-year-old always knew it was meant to be something bigger.
“I had big ambitions for the show,” she told Buzzfeed in 2024.
“I’m very grateful that it’s kind of become exactly what I wanted it to be.”
What once was a platform to showcase up-and-coming artists is now one of the main stops on an A-lister’s press tour.
Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date has been host to some of the world’s biggest stars including Cher, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, Sabrina Carpenter, and Paul Mescal.

But interviewing Hollywood heavyweights seems to have now set Dimoldenberg on the path to become one herself.
Not only has she scored herself a spot on some of the world’s biggest red carpets, but she’s also hosted them.
Dimoldenberg was the official Social Media Ambassador and Red Carpet Correspondent for the 2024 and 2025 Academy Awards.
“I need to make sure I’m as researched as possible,” she told Vogue ahead of the big event in 2024.
“But then also forget it all and just have fun with it.”
This year, Dimoldenberg interviewed star after star, including Jeff Goldblum, Cynthia Erivo and Willem Dafoe.
She even hosted a pre-show series where she brought her signature interview style to chat to some of the nominees.
She dove into the worldwide appeal of bowling with Jessie Eisenberg, practiced her Brighton Beach accent with Mikey Madison, and pitched Yura Borisov as the next James Bond.

But even with her success, Dimoldenberg isn’t immune to the “YouTube isn’t a real job” criticisms, which is why in 2018 she founded her own media company.
Dimz Inc was built as a way to formalise the work Dimoldenberg does in front of and behind the camera, hosting Chicken Shop Date, developing spin-off shows, and building her own empire.
At the moment, she’s flying high as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand interviewers, but she has aspirations of one day creating movie magic herself.
“I’d love to write a rom-com. That’s what I want to do,” she told Paper magazine.
“I hope in the future I can do that, because I feel like I have my own rom-com now with Chicken Shop Date, but I want that to kind of evolve into something that’s in its own world, and fictionalised even more.
“I love creating chemistry and serving up romance to people, and I think that no better way to do that would be in a rom com movie… I think it’d be amazing.”
